Student-run Station Runs on LiveU

Syracuse University’s CitrusTV Uses LiveU Encoders & App for Mobile Reporting

The Challenge

CitrusTV provides experiential hands-on learning to more than 350 undergraduate and graduate students at Syracuse University. The studio produces a live nightly newscast Monday through Friday, as well as a weekly Spanish-language newscast, three sports shows including a live post-game show, and three entertainment shows. The school was looking to vastly improve the level of content and production developed by the students.

LIVEU SOLUTIONS FOR EDUCATION

The Solution

The CitrusTV crew started using a LiveU backpacker and LiveU Smart app for their cell phones and tablets – to incorporate more live shots in to their 30-minute nightly newscasts and sports programs. The station uses LiveU day-to-day to cover weather, sports, and campus events. Adding LiveU to the newsgathering toolkit has changed the way they cover breaking news on campus. With emergencies and other news events happening on college campuses around the country, LiveU gives the school the flexibility to cover these events quickly and from anywhere.

"

“We hear from so many of our alumni that work in local and national TV that they are using LiveU to cover stories. When a student gets a Multimedia Journalist position in a small market, they are expected to go out with a LiveU and set up their own shot. The experience they get producing our shows readies them for that next level.”
